Dear WalNUT friends,
Summer has come to an end, and with it comes a fresh batch of exciting updates from the WalNUT project. Over the past few months, we have been busy producing new content, and we are thrilled to share it with you.
Latest news and outputs
We are excited to highlight our new series of webinars, covering dedicated topics and providing opportunities to learn, discuss, and engage directly with WalNUT’s work. These webinars share key insights, technical knowledge, and recommendations from the project, fostering knowledge exchange across Europe.
The Video News Release and a series of journalistic articles are now available, bringing the project’s stories and achievements to life.
In addition, the recently released factsheets present key outcomes from four of the five project pilots (one currently under patent approval). Each pilot tests a different nutrient recovery technology tailored to specific wastewater streams - industrial, sewage sludge, urban, food, and brine - at sites in Spain, Belgium, Hungary, and Greece. The factsheets offer a concise overview of the technologies, their performance, and their potential for sustainable nutrient reuse.
Our “A Chat with WalNUT” video interview series has continued with four new experts:
- Morten Birkved (SDU), Professor of Life Cycle Engineering at the University of Southern Denmark, introduces the role and value of LCA in WalNUT.
- Panos Papazoglou-Karachontzitis (UCPH), Research Assistant at the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, gives an overview of the Daisy Model and its role in the project.
- Sander Bruun (UCPH), Professor of Sustainable Soil Fertility Management, explores the challenges of using LCA to assess nutrient recovery technologies.
- Jade Muller-Carneiro (UC), Doctoral Researcher at the University of Coimbra, breaks down the goal and scope definition of an LCA.
Past activities
In September, our partner organized the latest WalNUT General Assembly, graciously hosted by the University of Turin (UNITO) in Grugliasco. The meeting included a visit to the WalNUT pilot site and two interactive workshops, providing a great opportunity for collaboration and discussion among partners.
We hope you enjoy reading (and watching!) this wrap-up summer edition and feel inspired by the innovative work happening across WalNUT.
Thank you, and enjoy your reading!
