Cooperation is key to closing the waste water cycle. For this purpose, WalNUT creates a virtual space for stakeholders to meet and establish synergies.
The WalNUT Platform is an interactive online tool developed by the National Technical University of Athens, aiming to facilitate matchmaking between stakeholders involved in the value chain of nutrient recovery from waste water streams. Its objective is twofold:
- Promote industrial symbiosis among the WalNUT stakeholders and EU-27 Member States.
- Provide a structured knowledge repository focused on agricultural nutrients from secondary resources within and outside Europe, covering the entire value chain.
The Platform is designed with a user-oriented interface, taking into account the viewpoints and needs of different professional categories in the WalNUT ecosystem. By registering, you can select one or multiple roles based on your needs, including:
- Waste water producers
- Farmers
- Agricultural associations
- Bio-based fertilizer producers
- Waste Water aggregators
- Technology providers
- Consultants.
A different array of information will be requested depending on the role selected, focusing on what you can offer or what you are looking for. A dedicated algorithm analyses three variables to suggest a match between different users and roles: (i) quality and (ii) quantity of the nutrient/product; (ii) the geographical distance between the two users. Top matches can be screened and selected within the Suggested Matches Page, where key information and contact details of your matches can be displayed to start your collaboration.
The Platform can also be used as a decision-making tool by waste water companies, helping them to select the best available techniques for nutrient recovery according to their inlet stream. Key statistics and metrics on nutrient recovery activities within the EU are provided to support short and long-term planning, thus prompting new green investment lines.
The Platform User Guide is available at this link.
