WalNUT at the VerdeTec exhibition in Athens

Published on 04 May 2023

During the VerdTech exhibition, the kiosk of the Unit of Environmental Science & Technology of the National Technological University of Athens showcased the results from the design of WalNUT pilot plant 4 on nutrient recovery from seawater desalination brine.

WalNUT is an EU-funded project that aims to design innovative solutions for nutrient recovery from waste water streams.  Nutrient recovery is the answer of the circular economy to the increased request of nutrients for intensive agricultural practices.

Since nutrients can be recovered from different waste water streams, WalNUT designed a series of new technologies for waste water treatments, and five of them were selected to be tested in five pilot plants across Europe, to be upscaled and replicated in the future.

WalNUT’s pilot plant in Greece will test a technology about nutrient recovery from seawater desalination brine. WalNUT partners from the National Technological University of Athens presented the nutrient recovery technology that was designed for WalNUT’s fourth pilot plant in Greece.

VerdeTec, where the technology was showcased, is the leading exhibition event in Greece for environmental technologies and innovations. It took place in Athens, Greece, on March 17 – 19, 2023. More than 13000 people visited the exhibition, having the opportunity to engage with experts, and to know about the last trends, advancements, and good practices.

This was a great chance for WalNUT to share its aims and technologies, to reach out to new stakeholders, and to connect with other projects in the same field.
