The WalNUT Project has released its Best Practice Book (BPB), a harmonised guide for researchers, industry, farmers, and policymakers on bio-based fertilisers (BBFs) derived from wastewater, algae, and mineral recovery processes.

The BPB documents production methods, nutrient composition, field performance, environmental impact, and agronomic efficiency of BBFs, including nitrogen-loaded zeolites, algae powder, Bio-NPK-C compounds, Smart BBFs, recovered salts, and ammonium sulphate. It presents results from pilot trials, maturity upscaling, and lessons learned, supported by harmonised evaluation protocols and SWOT analyses.

The document also addresses perspectives from industry, farmers, and researchers, highlighting the value of collaboration and data sharing.

By consolidating scientific and practical insights, it provides a roadmap for the safe, effective, and sustainable adoption of BBFs, promoting circular agriculture across Europe.
